Requests for proof of engagement or brief supporting letters (e.g. for Personal Independent Payments, Human Resources, Occupational Health etc) are charged at £15 and should be requested directly to your psychologist.
Dr Laura Onens (our clinical psychologist) is a licensed provider and trainer of Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback (HeartMath) techniques. Laura is able to train and supervise registered professionals e.g. in healthcare, education, social care to use HeartMath in their organisations or with clients. Laura is also able to provide 1:1 HeartMath-focussed stress management to clients as appropriate.
This stress management programme is used widely in health care organisations, corporate organisations, educational settings and by individuals. HeartMath is focused on aiming to help individuals regulate the heart and brain relationship. The heart and brain maintain a continuous two-way dialogue, each influencing the other’s functioning. The brain sends signals to the heart (e.g. during stress) which initiates increased heart rate and nervous system function. At its most extreme this is described as 'panic'. The heart also sends signals to the brain which can prolong a "stress-response" and influence perception, emotional processing and memory. Due to a number of hormones (e.g. adrenaline, cortisol) being released during the stress response, a prolonged physical response to stress can lead to physical health problems in addition to mental health difficulties.
HRV biofeedback allows clients to see the communication between their heart and brain through a simple sensor clipped to the ear to monitor the signals. Then through coaching, individuals learn to regulate this communication to "override" the signals that are reinforcing the stress response. HeartMath has a growing scientific evidence base for helping to reduce anxiety, panic, depression, anger, post traumatic stress and a number of associated health conditions e.g. high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, cognitive difficulties (to name a few). It is also popularly used by athletes to improve sports performance and has been introduced in educational settings and corporate settings to reduce performance anxiety, examination stress, burnout, resulting in increased productivity and performance. It is theorised that it is the ability to tangibly see and monitor the effectiveness of using self-regulation techniques that contributes to the success of this programme. If you require training or supervision for using HeartMath in professional practice then lease contact us for a quotation.
